Chapiteau-show

Recently I've watched the new russian movie by Sergey Loban, "Chapiteau-show", which had huge success on the 33rd Moscow International Film Festival. Initially I wasn't interested in it, but the director in the theatre where I work told me it could be worth watching, and I trust his opinion.
I don't regret having spent almost 4 hours on this film. It is said to be a comedy with the elements of drama, but it seems to be vice versa. The air is oppressing and gloomy, though there are lots of absurd and funny situations.

Each character has his own philosophy, an established way of thinking and coping with problems. When these different ways of life meet, the movie begins. The conflict is between the inner perception of a person and the outer reality. The characters try not to contact with other people but to fit others' thoughts and motivations into their own frameworks. And, of course, they fail to understand each other.
The scenes in the chapiteau are an interesting part of the film. Imaginary and real perfomances are mixed up, and this fact draws a parallel between the show and life in general. The idea is not new, "all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players", etc. But in the movie the other side of the shield is revealed, what happens if the person doesn't want to play his unique role and if he thinks that somebody else has already been himself more than he can be. This idea really impressed me, for I've never thought of it from this point of view. But it seems that the movie shows the failure of this concept of imitation. It's still very important to stay individual and not to become a copy of another person in our world full of surrogates.
